College move-outs and local storage near Rome, Sylvester, and Hickory
A local's guide to storage for students and families near Lenoir-Rhyne, Berry College, Shorter University, GNTC, and ABAC — plus the neighborhoods and landmarks our facilities actually sit next to.

One of the most common calls we get every spring is from a parent standing in a dorm room wondering what to do with a mini-fridge, a futon, and eight boxes of clothes until August. If you live near one of our three facilities — Rome, GA, Sylvester, GA, or Hickory, NC — this guide walks through the schools, neighborhoods, and drive times that actually matter when you're picking a unit.
Hickory, NC — Lenoir-Rhyne, CVCC, and the college move-out rush
Our Hickory facility sits a short drive from Lenoir-Rhyne University, one of the largest private universities in western North Carolina, and Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC). Between the two campuses, thousands of students clear out of dorms and off-campus apartments every May.
If you're a Lenoir-Rhyne parent driving in from out of state, a 5x10 unit is usually enough for a single dorm room — mattress topper, mini-fridge, microwave, desk chair, and 10 to 15 boxes. Families with two students often share a 10x10. We're also an easy stop for folks coming off US-321 or I-40, and just minutes from downtown Hickory, Union Square, and the Hickory Metro Convention Center.
Local landmarks nearby: Lenoir-Rhyne University, Catawba Valley Community College, Hickory Regional Airport, LP Frans Stadium (Hickory Crawdads), and the SALT Block.
Rome, GA — Berry, Shorter, GNTC, and Georgia Highlands
Rome is a college town at heart. Berry College (with one of the largest contiguous campuses in the world), Shorter University, Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC), and Georgia Highlands College all pull students from across the Southeast. Our Rome facility is a practical middle-ground for summer storage, study-abroad semesters, and student-athletes heading home between seasons.
We're a short drive from Broad Street, the Rome Braves' State Mutual Stadium, Ridge Ferry Park, and the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College. If you're moving in or out of student housing off Martha Berry Boulevard or Shorter Avenue, a 5x10 or 10x10 will handle most situations.
Sylvester, GA — ABAC, farm country, and Worth County families
Sylvester doesn't have a college in town, but Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton is only about 20 minutes down US-82, and Albany State University is roughly 40 minutes west. Our Sylvester facility mostly serves Worth County families, Tift County commuters, and small businesses along the US-82 corridor — including contractors, growers, and folks storing seasonal equipment between harvests.
Nearby landmarks: downtown Sylvester, Worth County High School, the Georgia Peanut Festival grounds, and the ABAC campus in Tifton.
A quick note on why we mention all this
It's a fair question — why does a storage blog list off local colleges and landmarks? Partly it's genuinely useful: when someone Googles "storage near Lenoir-Rhyne" or "summer storage Berry College," we want them to find a real answer written by people who actually live and work down the road. And partly it's how modern search engines confirm that a local business is really where it says it is. Naming the neighborhoods, roads, and schools around each facility helps Google (and customers) trust that UnitSafe is a real, family-owned operator in Rome, Sylvester, and Hickory — not a call center pretending to be local.
